Types of Artificial Intelligence

Understanding different categories of AI from machine learning to generative models

AI by Capability

Narrow AI (Weak AI): AI designed for specific tasks. All existing AI today is Narrow AI. Examples: ChatGPT, facial recognition, spam filters.

AGI (Artificial General Intelligence): Theoretical AI with human-level intelligence across all domains. Does not yet exist.

ASI (Artificial Superintelligence): Hypothetical AI surpassing human intelligence in all aspects. Purely speculative.

Machine Learning

AI systems that learn from data without explicit programming.

Supervised Learning: Learning from labeled data

Unsupervised Learning: Finding patterns in unlabeled data

Reinforcement Learning: Learning through rewards and penalties

Deep Learning

Neural networks with multiple layers. Powers modern AI including ChatGPT, Claude, image recognition, and more.

Natural Language Processing (NLP)

Enables machines to understand and generate human language. Powers ChatGPT, Claude, translation tools, and voice assistants.

Computer Vision

AI that interprets visual information. Used in facial recognition, autonomous vehicles, medical imaging.

Generative AI

Creates new content. Includes ChatGPT (text), Midjourney (images), Sora (video), ElevenLabs (voice).
